Today in Singapore, I wondered about these screens popping up along the train tracks. We have always had them near LRT stations and I assumed they were for privacy as the lines pass very near houses. But putting them along the track where the trains would pass by fast didn’t make much sense. Turns out it is to block noise. These screens can apparently reduce the noise by 5-10 decibels. We live a reasonable distance from the tracks though we can still see it. I wonder if we would notice the drop or if we’ve already become used to it. I think we need visitors to give a good assessment.
