Today in Singapore, I was reminded of a conversation I had with my friend about putting on the commuter face. It’s easy to put the don’t look at me face and shield yourself in your little world behind a phone or a book. Afterall the train is one place we aren’t expected to interact with others beyond courtesy. But sometimes it’s nice to look up, look around and maybe even share a smile with a fellow commuter. I remember this promise I made to myself once in a while and become that strange person in the train who smiles for no reason.
